Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding
Cladding helps achieve modern design with‘unique coastal inspirations’
Modern design trends are on the rise, but many beach town home owners also desire the coastal look that cladding products have traditionally afforded them. To achieve a fusion between modern and coastal for his client, Danny Glennon from Shoredan Projects used new Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding fibre cement panels by James Hardie.
Along the coast of Queensland’s Palm Beach, development and construction business Shoredan Projects, was commissioned for the new build of a modern house with unique coastal inspirations. The residence’s mixed aesthetic called for a combination of contemporary and classic architecture, with simple shapes, clean lines and a relaxed, breezy open floor plan.
Shoredan’s director, Danny Glennon, was challenged with balancing the build’s practicality and budget with the style and sophistication expected in such a premium location.
Featuring a pool, al fresco living and dining spaces, and beautiful gardens, the house was designed to seamlessly merge indoor and outdoor living. With a focus on making a statement in sophisticated coastal architecture, the home’s façade showcases a mix of cladding profiles to reflect the beachside surrounds.
“Our motto is ‘from conception to perfection’. Every construction choice we make is to achieve perfection,” explains Dan. “We chose to use James Hardie’s Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding on the exterior because it provides extensive benefits not only to the build, but to the overall project, owner and our team.”
Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding is a pre primed fibre cement panel that is embedded with a fine texture for a modern render design aesthetic. Each panel features a v groove, ship lap joint along two vertical edges. Its range of use includes residential and medium density builds,
Additionally, the premium fibre cement composition is resistant to cracking and lime staining for long term durability and easy maintenance.
To complete the look’s beachside appeal, the colour consultant applied Dulux’s Casper White Quarter. Each panel comes pre primed and prepared for painting, and as Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding installation uses brad nails this avoids the need for filling holes prior to painting, there was further time, cost and resource savings.
“The hands on personal customer assistance provided by James Hardie was invaluable,” adds Dan. “Their team supported us throughout the project with expert knowledge. As Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding is a new product, our crew didn’t have experience using it. Our James Hardie specialist joined us on site to lead a tutorial on working with it, including the best tools and methods.” “Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding provided across the board benefits, from build to design. The finished home perfectly suits the market, with the quality, finishing and details a high end buyer would expect,” adds Dan.
The home’s initial specifications actually called for an alternative cladding product that put the build over budget.
“Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding offered equitable high quality with additional benefits, and at a better price point,” Danny says. “Proposing the alternative use of Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding actually won our company this project.”
“The use of Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding delivered a cost savings of approximately $10,500 over 200m2, across price, rendering, labour and scaffolding. Due to its material qualities, the only additional expenditure was on painting. The original proposed product had a price point three times that of Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding , compounded by even further costs for additional installation labour and a need for scaffolding,” says Danny.
The finished texture of Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding allowed the builder to save on time, cost, materials and labour, uncluttered lines and textured macro detailing that makes the home’s modern coastal look perfectly cohesive and timelessly appealing. Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding was used for two thirds of the house’s façade, with James Hardie’s Axon cladding completing the exterior.
